Elon Musk said on Sunday that the maker of Full Self-driving electric vehicles (FSD) Beta version 10.13 will allow its cars to navigate routes where no maps are available.
What Happened: The billionaire entrepreneur says FSD Beta 10.12.2 expands to 100,000 cars and version 10.13 will start handling roads with "no map data at all."
Version 10.13 will also be able to smooth out crossing controls, especially long left, Musk wrote in a tweet. “The last point is a big deal. Within months, FSD should be able to drive to GPS points with zero map data,” Musk wrote in a tweet. Tesla has significantly increased its beta program offerings to customers. The EV maker in April said it had rolled out a full self-driving beta software program to more than 100,000 customers in the United States.
The Musk-led company first started beta testing FSD in late 2020 among a select group of customers known as beta testers.
Musk recently said he believes Tesla is likely to actualize the capabilities of its Level-4 FSD system next year, pushing back the timeline again.
The Level-4 system implies the vehicle can handle all aspects of driving without human intervention. Tesla is currently at Level 2.
